Literature Text

You planted yourself in your seat, avoiding all means of contact with your ‘partner’. Once the remaining students piled into the room and had taken their assigned seats, Miss. Robin began to read off the attendance.

You tuned out, only voicing yourself once you had been called upon. Soon, the black – haired instructor began to write on the black board, placing down the white chalk and stepped away from the board. You quickly scanned your eyes over the neatly written text, easily deciphering it to be the Buddy Assignment that was to be given today.

Create a fictional story involving a large bag of gold, a business man and a deserted island. Each partner will create their own version then incorporate aspects of their stories into a final product. The final piece must be at least 3 – 5 pages.

You hummed softly at the task, a fairly simple commission that should take you at least the period to create. With several follow – up instructs added, Miss. Robin gestured for her students to begin.

You pulled out your phone and headphones from your bag, placing the earpieces over your ears and swiftly picked a song and began on your draft. Law watched as his partner quickly got to work, already scribbling down a paragraph. He stared for a few more moments before getting to work on his own draft, determined to one – up his mediocre rival.

Soon enough, fifteen minutes remained until the bell rung, and you had thankfully finished your rough draft just in time. You had about four pages, two sheets of paper back and front, of your fictional piece and was fairly content by how it turned out.

“You done?” You turned to Law as he spoke and nodded, “Pass it here.” He extended his hand, gesturing for you to hand him your work. You merely stared at his outstretched hand, resisting the urge to strike the appendage away.

Law scoffed, holding out his own story, “Fine, you stubborn woman. Here, mine for yours.” He bargained. You eyed the papers, noting the neat handwriting that decorated the blue lines of the sheet. You hummed and exchanged your story for Law’s, somewhat curious as to what he had done with the required elements.

Leaning comfortably back in your seat, you began to read the short narrative with an uninterested look. It took roughly one minute for you to be pulled into the story, entranced by the words and emotions that you would never have believed had been written by Law. The wanna – be – doctor sure had a way with words, and it astounded you greatly to realize that he actually could show emotion even if it was merely written on a piece of paper.

You liked his story, you actually enjoyed reading that cocky bastard’s story and that was something that needed to change and very quickly. You began to search almost desperately for any means of spelling mistakes or plot holes, but the more you read the more the words drew you in, the more perfect the narrative seemed to become.

Law had yet to even glance down at your work, personally wanting to see how his rival would react to his own. What he did not expect was to see a small smile grace your lips and even letting out a light hum of amusement. He blinked, questioning whether or not you truly did enjoy his work or if you were merely chucking at a spelling error he may have made.

The ravenette finally glanced down at the paper in his hands and begun to read silently. Similar to that of your reaction, Law was quickly entranced by the words written neatly on the paper. Although he did encounter a rare spelling error here and there, he had to admit that the short narration was well done. However, he refused to show any form of approval, his face remaining stoic and uninterested.

He understood why you transferred into this class, you had a natural talent for English.

Soon enough, both finished reading each other’s work then exchanged. There was a silence and you drummed your fingers against the wooden surface of your desk awkwardly. You glanced at Law, whom was looking over his work with a bored expression.

“So, what’d you think?” You asked. Law glanced up from his paper, momentarily locking eyes with you before quickly looking away. He hummed with a lazy shrug, giving off the impression that your story was barely considered satisfactory.

A small tick mark appeared on your forehead, but you calmed yourself down and clicked your tongue. You should have expected such a reply from your enemy but he could have at least gave you constructive criticism – no, that’s be a very bad idea. Law would probably make fun of every little thing he could find wrong with your story, from any grammatical errors to your handwriting.

It had only been one day and you had already had enough of this partnership, and you assumed Law felt the exact same thing. Maybe there was a slim chance of convincing Miss. Robin that you could never in a million years work together, it was fairly obvious just by watching you both.

The bell had rung and you quickly began to pack up your things. You slung your bag over your shoulder and as you prepared to exit the classroom, a firmly placed hand on your shoulder forced you to pause. You turned back to see Law and rose a questioning eyebrow. However, before you could voice your confusion, Law grabbed your wrist and slapped something in the palm of your hand.

He lean forward a bit and whispered firmly, “Be there today at exactly five o’clock. Don’t come a minute later.”

He pushed pasted you, hurriedly stalking out of the classroom and to his next class. You glanced down at your hand to see a small scrap piece of paper with an address written on it. You scoffed, crumpling the paper and shoving it in your pants pocket.

You had just been invited to Trafalgar’s house. That should be a jolly – good time, or it would have been if you didn’t hate Law’s guts.

Hopefully nothing will go too wrong – ah, who were you trying to kid? It was going to go to hell the moment you step onto his porch.

This would be a unique experience to say the least, and hopefully the experience will be short – lived. It’ll just be an hour or two, you could manage that without losing your temper. You can, right?

Reader - Chan has already been invited to Trafalgar's house? Wow, that was fast, good on you!

Hopefully your relationship with him will get better, orrrr it will get significantly worse. See shall we, won't we?
